I'm currently working on disambiguating Victoria. I don't know enough about this subject to know which Victoria to change the one in the article too. Can someone with more knowledge of the subject change it please? Thanks. Grey Shadow 23:53, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

inner ring road - zone 1??

[edit]

what's this? The ring road corresponds roughly to Travelcard Zone 1, erm, i don't think it does, perhaps to the north, east and south, it does roughly correspond, but howabout to the west. Zone 1 is from park lane to earls court,, marble arch/edgware road - notting hill.

I'm going to change it.

Merge in...

[edit]

I am proposing that the following roads:

There doesn't seem anything particularly notable about them as individual routes. The other roads have something more about them so I think we could amend the London Inner Ring Road to give a brief intro and then have a see also link. Regan123 13:29, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The merger does not seem quite appropriate to me. I would suggest leaving the articles on the individual roads. Yes, some of them may never contain much information, but they still seem functional as independent articles. (I would guess that a fairly lengthy article can be written on Tower Bridge Road.) I come back to the issue of notability. I am proposing bringing that information into this article. If one section is particularly notable then it could be expanded into another article if needed. For example, Park Lane doesn't seem a sensible one to merge as it is very well known has a notability that stands on its own. The other question is do we need 2 articles on the same stretch of tarmac which is what we have here? Regardless of the outcome of the discussions I will be expanding this article with more info on the constituent roads and See Alsos as I think we need to create a "parent" article. Regarding notabilty I would say Pentonville Road is notable enough, alone through its appearance on the Monopoly board game, therefor I oppose. --Poeloq 14:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I support merging into sections on a single article & turning the individual articles into redirects to the appropriate section, along the lines of what's been done to A215 road, and would also support doing it to all the other A-roads such as the multiple stubs for the individual sections of the A23 road, except possibly for a few cases such as Piccadilly and Oxford Street where the section is more notable than the A-road it's part of. This wouldn't be losing any information, it would just make it easier to follow the road route through its sections. - iridescent (talk to me!) 14:21, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, at the moment Pentonville Road and Tower Bridge Road are under debate, does anyone object to the other two? Regan123 21:58, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Average diameter

[edit]

The lede currently states that it has 'an average diameter of 2.75–5.5 miles (4.43–8.85 km)'- this is wholly inaccurate. The minimum distance from one side to another (as the crow flies, roughly through the centre of the shape so formed) is about 4.13km / 2.56 miles (nr Euston Sta to Elephant & Castle) and the maximum is about 6.8km / 4.2 miles (Lisson Grove to Tower Bridge). A figure for an 'average diameter' is going to be about 5.5km / 3.4 miles. Perhaps a suitably referenced figure (rather than OR) could be found somewhere?
